The number one predictor of ongoing and continuous recovery, for patients leaving primary treatment, may be in their aftercare planning and support. Leaving the safety of residential treatment is a daunting task for those early in recovery. While they may have made great strides in treatment this can be immediately stifled when returning to old stomping grounds, destructive relationships, a lack of healthy recreation, which are just some of the many “trappings” that await a patient’s return to society. How do these patients implement all they have learned about themselves, their disease, and new tools/coping strategies?
“Recovery Integration” is designed to assist our clients in creating a sober lifestyle where recovery is the underlying fabric and foundation in all facets of daily living. We work with our clients and their families to identify short and long term goals, potential hazards/triggers, ways to find sober recreation, and the development of relationships. Our approach utilizes 12 step facilitation and therefore emphasizes our client’s immersion into 12 step recovery.
The recovery integration coach’s primary objective is to facilitate a recovering lifestyle that can and will be maintained overtime and eventually, without the coach’s involvement. Client autonomy is critical as most have come to us dependent on chemicals as well as other human beings. Monitoring is a vital component to recovery integration, especially in early recovery, but self-monitoring and the development of a support network is what we hope to achieve.
